Some feedbacks

Participants of the mentoring program and community members are sharing their feedback and thoughts

  • After 4 months of working together and communicating, my mentee got her first job as a Junior Python Developer! Dear mentee, I am incredibly proud of you and very glad that I was able to support you on this path. Your result is a vivid example of the fact that hard work and enthusiasm will allow you to achieve any set goals!

  • In these 3.5 months of work, I see a huge gap: before that, I had plans to postpone the job search itself for as long as possible until I "learn everything well"; now I have specific goals.
Dasha also prepared me for a technical interview and generously shared her knowledge.
I felt support and faith in myself, and it seems to me that this faith will support me internally and further, when I will already be in free swimming.

  • I am very glad that I wrote to WWC in November 2020 and found Yulia. I want to say about Yuli's very cool skills - the ability to clearly identify and systematize tasks, not to look for easy ways, but to work qualitatively, understanding the basic processes, also to be a psychologist at times and to feel what a person needs... what exactly is the help of a mentor.

  • During these three months, I not only significantly improved my knowledge of Java, but also got to know the world of the Java backend. I am grateful to the WWCodeKyiv organization for this opportunity. And a special thank you to my mentor Mariana Shama for her support at every step and for the pleasant atmosphere at our meetings 💜.

  • Volunteering for WWCodeKyiv and now Vona Tech Community has had a huge impact on my career. I got my last two jobs thanks to references from the community, now I work as an engineer at Apple.
Volunteering also helped develop my leadership skills, which I use at work. I also gained important experience in public speaking.
In addition to the above, helping others gives me the feeling that I am doing something important, helping people, influencing the development of IT in Ukraine.

  • The positive experience of participating in the mentoring program as a mentor gave me the confidence that it is worth investing your own energy in supporting and developing the values that are important to you.

Expanding the circle of acquaintances among successful girls and women in IT motivates me, sharing experiences enriches me and helps me maintain faith in my own strength.

  • I first heard about the community in October 2023 at an event where Yulia and Olga spoke. And after that, I became an active member of the community. I went to events, was a speaker myself, took part in the mentoring program. The most important thing for me is the people who are here. These are smart, strong and incredible women with whom you want to work and develop the community. Now I am the curator of the Backend direction and I am very glad that I went to the event that October day.

    FAQs

Have Questions ? We’re here to help

    • What Vona Tech Community do?
Vona Tech is a community focused on empowering tech professionals and enthusiasts through networking, skill development, and collaboration. It offers workshops, mentorship programs, job opportunities, and resources for learning and growth. Members can participate in events, join discussions, and work on projects, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for career advancement in technology.
    • Can men attend Vona Tech Community conferences, meetups and workshops?
Yes, they can. Limitations may apply if a high-demand event has a very limited space for attendees. If you are an active member of the community, you have higher chances to be invited to events with limited space.
    • I want to mentor, but I don't even know where to start. Do you provide a theoretical framework or advice on mentoring best practices?
Also, practice has shown that usually you have already gone through the path that your mentee is currently on. We recommend learning about her experience and motivation, and in the process you will see what exactly will be useful to share with her.

You can start with the simplest thing: conduct a question-and-answer session to understand what the mentee is most interested in. Mention your favorite resources in your area of specialization and recommend the mentee if she has a request to broaden her horizons in the field. Ask to show examples of work and do reviews when the mentee needs more practice. Analyze a work situation from your experience that can be useful and informative for her. Do a mock interview if the mentee wants to look for a job. Come up with and implement a pet project. Choose together the most relevant technology for the mentee. And so on.

We believe that it is you, as an already formed professional, who best understands what exactly is needed for scouting by a less experienced person in this profession. You have the most important thing - experience, skills and willingness to help. And the tools are an acquired thing, and you can always contact the coordinator for additional ideas. 🙂
    • How do I determine if I have enough experience to be a mentor for the mentoring program?
If you have never mentored, it is not an obstacle. We will help. Experienced mentors are very rare. You will also be able to learn something new for yourself in the process 🙂 If you are not sure whether you have enough professional experience: if you are at least an initial middle level, then this is enough! At this level you will already be able to be very useful for trainees and juniors.
    • Who can join the community?
Anyone interested in technology, including professionals, students, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, career changers, and educators, can join the Vona Tech community.
